Yet we hear the buzz terminology applied that ‘your website has to be an experience.’ Of course, all websites are an experience, but are they one that’s transformative? Being a work-from-home mom means nothing ever gets your full attention. You walk by the dishes while chatting with your boss and think to yourself: “Ah, let me empty that dish rack." You make beds, throw in a load of laundry, cut chicken, wash dishes, scrub the bathtub—sometimes all in a day’s work. It feels like you’re working two jobs at once. And it's grueling.

Cookies are a form of digital advertising, which are tracking tools within desktop devices; causing difficulty, with shortcomings including deletion by web browsers, the inability to sort between multiple users of a device, inaccurate estimates for unique visitors, overstating reach, understanding frequency, problems with ad servers, which cannot distinguish between when cookies have been deleted and when consumers have not previously been exposed to an ad. Due to the inaccuracies influenced by cookies, demographics in the target market are low and vary (Whiteside, 2016). Another element, which is affected within digital marketing, is ‘viewabilty’ or whether the ad was actually seen by the consumer. Many ads are not seen by a consumer and may never reach the right demographic segment. Brand safety is another issue of whether or not the ad was produced in the context of being unethical or having offensive content. Recognizing fraud when an ad is exposed is another challenge marketers face. This relates to invalid traffic as premium sites are more effective at detecting fraudulent traffic, although non-premium sites are more so the problem (Whiteside, 2016).

Last week I saw a graphic which was similar to this one and simply indicated how much time a digital CEO should be dedicated to content consumption vs. creation. I guess my version is a bit more extreme than the one that I saw but the message is clear: as a digital entrepreneur you have to make sure that most of your time consists of creation instead of consumption. And I must admit that this is harder than it might sound. Every day I come across tons of really great content which I want to properly save to come back to it later. For example, I subscribe to lots of newsletters and receive tons of free pdf downloads which I love because I always think that I get delivered value which I can use for my own blog postings, videos or workshops. But the problem is that this information has no end. I could scroll through the internet for decades and would still find content that seems awesome and really necessary.
Brian Clark: Yeah, that’s the working definition. I think it’s pretty solid. That doesn’t stop us from exploring hybrid situations or maybe expanding the definition as things change, but it actually is fundamentally sound. Any definition broader than that is really just stepping over into other terminology that we have had for decades, like e-commerce.
This is the standard affiliate marketing structure. In this program, the merchant pays the affiliate a percentage of the sale price of the product after the consumer purchases the product as a result of the affiliate’s marketing strategies. In other words, the affiliate must actually get the investor to invest in the product before they are compensated.
Don’t go too broad — Earlier, we mentioned that a benefit of affiliate marketing is that affiliates get to choose the products they sell. Because affiliates are building out their brands, they shouldn’t cast their nets too wide. There are affiliate opportunities for everything you can think of: technology, fashion, health, fitness, and even dog training. If you’re trying to get into affiliate marketing, try and stay relatively within a certain niche.
